Google+ Marketing
Let's be honest about Google+. Google is the 800lb gorilla in search, but Facebook. Twitter and LinkedIn are all more important when it come to social media. Google+ is not as popular as Facebook. It's not even close. But, it Google+ is owned by Google. And that little fact is very important.

Why create a Google+ page?
Search rankings in Google.com. There is anecdotal evidence to suggest that profiles that do well on Google+ get indexed quicker on Google. Add to that the fact that Google Plus business pages are beginning to show up on search engine results pages, and you have two very strong reasons to work on establishing a presence here. Integration of Google’s many services with one another, such as Google+ with Youtube, search, etc. is perhaps inevitable. So, if you want to rank highly in Google search results, you should create a Google+ page.

In general, if you're writing great posts for Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIN, you might as well make some small changes to them, and post them to your Google+ page. It's not too much extra effort, and you'll end up with a solid Google+ page (and more traffic from Google.com).

Take advantage of Google+ reviews
With Google+ reviews showing up on search results, potential customers might be influenced to choose your business if they come across positive reviews. Therefore, provide great service and proactively solicit reviews on Google+. Nothing beats a favorable reference from one human being to another. Along the same lines, searchers looking for local businesses, particularly those on the move and using mobiles can find your store if your Google+ business page carries the relevant information with Google Maps embedded, office hours and your phone number. This is truly a requirement for any small business.

Explore Google+ Ripples
Google Plus is a feature-rich social media platform; you can leverage Circles, Hangouts, Hangouts on Air, Communities and Ripples. The latter category can be particularly useful for small businesses. It is a data visualization graph that lets you take in at a glance the manner in which your content has been shared. You can easily learn about your more enthusiastic and influential followers. Ripples is also a fun tool to use and worth checking out.

Getting more Connections on Google+
We generally don't suggest putting too much effort into this. To be frank, we find that many other people care more about building a strong Google+ community then we do. So, we let other people do the hard work, and use the following technique.
  1. Build professional Google+ page.
  2. Add content to the page that was originally written for Facebook, or another purpose. Make sure we edit this content enough so that it is unique.
  3. Put a link to your Google+ page on your website.
  4. Wait for people to ask you to join their circles.

For the most part, collecting strong following takes time. For Google+, we let other people do the hard work. Our strategy really is "leveraging the work we're doing on other social media websites to generate as much benefit as we can on Google+". It's not that having a Google+ presence isn't useful. It's just that we only have some much money and time. The strategy we've created is the best way we've found to allocate your marketing dollars.

Is Google+ Relevant?
Google+ is not myspace. Google+ has long been rumored to be a “ghost town;” however, there are actually 1.15 billion registered users and 201 million active mobile users on a monthly basis. It is very searchable, and Google incorporates Google+ profiles into its search results in various ways (far more so than any other social network). If you’re already creating content for Facebook, it’s a very simple process to share that same (or very similar) content on Google+ as well. Two birds; one stone.

Google’s answer to Facebook hasn’t quite taken off like Google hoped it would ¬– but it’s hardly the ghost town it is often rumored to be. There are 359 million active users, most of whom are male, with the largest segments being students, creatives (like photographers, designers, and bloggers), and tech professionals. The biggest thing to remember here is that Google+ is Google, so if you’re looking for search rankings, it’s a good place to be. There are a few strategies to consider employing:
  • If you can find a relevant “Community” (communities on Google+ are groups users can join based on topic) for your business or offering, join it and contribute.
  • If your customer base doesn’t happen to be active on Google+, it can still be a good idea to be active because the content is so searchable. If you are active on another social network, it’s usually pretty easy to repost content from that network to Google+ using a service like Hootsuite or Buffer.
  • Whatever you post, think of it in terms of SEO. Don’t “keyword stuff” your descriptions, but make sure to use relevant keywords in order to make your content easily searchable.
Who should have Google+ page? People interested in SEO for their own website. This is a secondary strategy for social media marketing, but a very good place to obtain links.
